U.S. crude oil production broke 10 million barrels a day in November for the first time since production peaked in 1970, at the start of a decades long decline. The U.S. is the world's third largest oil producer, and its status is growing. Russia is the largest, with about 11 million barrels a day. Weekly U.S. Field Production of Crude Oil (Thousand Barrels per Day) Crude oil production quantities are estimated by state and summed to the PADD and the U.S. level. State production estimates reported by EIA are normally different from data reported by state agencies. For example, production estimates for Texas reported on table 26 are different from production reported by the Railroad Commission of Texas. Under this definition, total world oil production in 2019 averaged 80,622,000 barrels per day. Approximately 68% came from the top ten countries, and an overlapping 44% came from the fourteen current OPEC members, in the table below. The top three producers have in recent history been (alphabetically) Russia, Saudi Arabia, and the United States.
